Dear RHESSI XVIII Workshop participants,
As many of you may have already known, we (the EOVSA team) are going to do an EOVSA data tutorial on Wednesday (May 29) from 3:30 to 5 pm (link to detailed workshop schedule). We have put together a Wiki page that includes all main contents and detailed instructions of our tutorial: http://www.ovsa.njit.edu/wiki/index.php?title=EOVSA_Data_Analysis_Tutorial. You might see some final tweaks to the text/figures before Wednesday, but everything should be in order.
Our tutorial will consist of two components: One for producing and visualizing (cross-power) dynamic spectra and spectral images based on an example EOVSA visibility database (run by myself), and another for performing spectral analysis of the resulting spectral imaging data (run by Gelu Nita). We strongly encourage you to bring your laptops and actively participate.
There are two ways to actively participate our hands-on tutorial:
Install the relevant software packages on your laptop beforecoming to the tutorial. Detailed information and instructions can be found in Section 3.1 of the tutorial. However, we will not go through details on software installation during the tutorial, as this will be potentially very time consuming given the limited time we have.
Connect to our Amazon AWS cloud server. Setting up connection to the cloud server via SSH should be very straightforward, which only takes a few steps. For detailed instructions, please refer to Section 3.1.1 of the tutorial. However, our server has limited computing resources. If many of you are working hard on the server at the same time, you might expect a decline in performance.
To better understand your needs, particularly on whether, and how, you wish to participate our hands-on tutorial, please kindly fill out the following questionnaire at your earliest convenience:
Please do not hesitate to let us know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. We look forward to seeing you in Minneapolis!
Bin Chen and Gelu Nita
